PBN takes special pride in its association with the Australian Parliament House for providing a total upgrade and overhaul of the cable television network known as the “House Monitoring System”. The House Monitoring System combines television and radio services produced by the Sound and Vision Department from extensive production and post-production facilities, along with a selection of externally sourced TV and radio transmissions.
Prior to the mid-1990s, Parliament House only had copper coaxial wiring. By 1996, PBN had been requested to deploy HFC equipment. It was PBN’s job to design, supply, install, and commission a bi-directional fiber transmission system complete with SMS to deliver these signals to House of representitive members, senators, and staff in Parliament. The Parliament House needed tailormade products that had to be customize, so PBN researched, developed, and manufactured a range of optical transmitters, optical receivers, and a complex data transmission system to deliver critical status information over the existing SMOF network. At the time of commissioning the project, PBN already had an established reputation for the reliability of its equipment and was the only CATV laser manufacturer in Australia.
A customized Graphical User Interface (GUI) was created to handle the over 900 alarm parameters from various transmitters and receivers. The successful completion of this technically complex project demonstrated PBN’s position as a leading Australian manufacturer and system integrator of broadband optical transmission products.
