Multi-vendor PON Networks
PBN Global recognizes that operators prefer multi-vendor ecosystems to drive down CAPEX costs. However, unlike the highly compatible DOCSIS standard, the PON standard lacks interoperability, with many proprietary MIBs hindering the development of a universal PON service assurance platform. Nonetheless, PBN has a solution that addresses this challenge, enabling operators to leverage a multi-vendor PON environment while ensuring effective service assurance.
Integrating with non-standardized PON equipment can be a huge task, but PBN has done the legwork by pre-integrating with major PON suppliers such as NOKIA, Huawei, ZTE, Adtran, and Fiberhome. This eliminates the need for operators to undertake the troublesome task of integrating multiple vendors’ Element Management Systems (EMS). Without a unified solution, operators would have to integrate multiple vendors’ EMS, a process proven to be problematic. Additionally, EMS often lacks the capability to integrate with third-party systems such as billing, leading to scattered operational information across different systems.
While PON technology offers the advantage of being passive, it also provides limited visibility into the network status between endpoints. Therefore, an Assurance Platform that correlates Geographic Information System (GIS) data and passive infrastructure is crucial for reducing fault recovery times. PBN’s solution addresses these challenges, enabling operators to effectively manage and assure their multi-vendor PON deployments.
